Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Debrief ("we", "us", "our") is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. To contact us about data protection matters, email hello@debrief.app.
2. About this policy
This policy covers people who visit our website and people who use the Debrief desktop application. Where a section applies to only one group, this is stated.
3. Data we collect
Website visitors
We collect analytics data to understand how people use our website. If you provide your email address, this is associated with your analytics profile. Our analytics provider sets a cookie on your device; see Section 10 for details.
App users
We collect your email address and, where you sign in via a third-party provider, your account identifier and authentication tokens for that provider.
The app ingests data from the services you connect via plugins — for example, commits and code changes from a connected code repository, or edits from a connected document service. The data collected depends on which plugins you have enabled; each plugin's documentation describes what it accesses.
We also collect feedback via surveys, usage events, and error reports.
4. How we use your data
We use your data to provide the service. This processing is necessary to perform our contract with you.
We use usage and error data to understand how the service is used, investigate problems, and improve reliability. We do this on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating and developing the service.
We may also use data processed through the app — including plugin-collected data, outputs generated by the service, and associated usage data — to develop and improve our services. We do this on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving the product.
We use your account data to authenticate you and manage your subscription, which is necessary to perform our contract with you.
5. AI processing
To provide the service, your data may be sent to a third-party AI provider for processing. Our AI providers are listed in our subprocessors list, which is available on request.
6. Plugins
Plugins are extensions of the core service and all data they collect is governed by this policy. Plugins may be first-party (developed by us) or third-party (submitted by external developers and reviewed before listing). Each plugin's documentation describes the data it accesses.
7. Storage and retention
Data collected by the app is stored on your device. You can delete your data within the app at any time. Data transmitted for AI processing is not retained beyond the processing request.
8. Data sharing
We share data with third-party subprocessors to operate the service, including AI providers, hosting and infrastructure providers, an analytics provider, an error tracking provider, and a payment processor. All subprocessors act under contractual arrangements. A full list of subprocessors is available on request.
We may disclose data to law enforcement or regulatory bodies where required by law.
9. International data transfers
Data may be processed in the UK, EU, and United States. We take steps to ensure that transfers outside the UK are made in accordance with applicable data protection law.
10. Website cookies
This section applies to website visitors only. We use cookies to support analytics and to ensure a consistent experience on the website. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking tags.
11. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to processing based on legitimate interest. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@debrief.app. We will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. For changes that are purely administrative or that improve your position, the updated policy takes effect when posted. For material changes, we will give you reasonable notice before the change takes effect. Your continued use of the service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
